A post like this one is the reason I do this blog. I love being able to publicly recognize those who help others and the remarkable and distinguished sworn and civilian employees of LAPD's Mission Division are no exception. Mission Division hosted a momentous BBQ fundraiser for our family today and it was an amazing day, filled with love and generosity from so many. Mission Area Senior Lead Officers organized today's event and we felt so honored to be in the presence of such a kind and magnanimous group of people. They welcomed us with open arms and thanked Steve for his service in their division. They even graciously took pictures of the event and handed me a CD with the photos on it. Incidentally, Officer Ayala is a much better photographer than I am! I think he even photoshopped out my wrinkles... We were also grateful to meet some of the Mission officers who helped save Steven's life on April 4th. Also making an appearance were Steve's cohorts from K9, and it is always a pleasure to hang out with those guys.
So, on behalf of Steven and my entire family, we say a very humble and grateful THANK YOU to Mission Area officers, civilians, and specifically, the Senior Lead Officers who are clearly virtuosos in their field. We are overwhelmed with gratitude and appreciation.
As I've done in the past, I will let the photographs speak for themselves...and there are a lot of photos! Peruse, enjoy, and capture a glimpse of all these beautiful people!!!

What an amazing bunch of folks the LAPD! The support shown to officers and their families should make anyone associated with the Department VERY proud!!
Beautiful Jenkins family photo!!
Beth, as far as your comment about your wrinkles....I once heard a woman say she'd never have plastic surgery or Botox to erase the lines on her face...she said that each of those wrinkles helped to tell the story of her life and her story wasn't going to be erased.
Made me feel better about the aging process! :)
What great pictures! I've been out for a bit, and I forgot how much I missed your posts, but it has given me a snapshot of how much progress Steve has made. Wow, you look great Steve! The smile and facial expressions from this party are so much improved, and all with missing part of your jaw. From the pics THIS was the pary we should have come to! Is everyone trying to out-do each other? There will hopefully be more, and mark my words, with election season right around the corner numerous congress-people and presidential hopefuls will likely be calling you, wanting to stand on the shoulders of your great success story. My forecast is that you'll need an solid agent....I don't know...perhaps someone who at least knows Steve's middle name? I almost got my butt kicked for telling someone that top-secret piece of info in the 7th grade. Who knew? Anyway, don't settle for Sarah Palin wanting to dedicate an Anchorage phone booth in your name. Your type of courage and perseverance demands something more....I'm leaning towards something with more pinache like the "Jenkins Honorary Bathrooms" at Cherry Park near Orange and Carson streets. But, if you have to have something in LA I favor the bus stop in front of King-Drew Medical Center that I had to duck into in the mid 90s, as a medical sales rep, to avoid a shower of rocks from some folks in the parking lot. Good times! Please continue getting better and thanks so much for posting the pictures! Best regards, Mark Oh yes, and about Father's Day. I spoke at my Father's funeral in late 2009 and as I wrote the words I wanted to say I thought "What have I done? What will I do? What am I prepared to do? What will my children say about me?" My Father was a concert pianist, Korean War Vet, and successful Electrical Engineer designing weapons to keep us safe during the Cold War and my claim to fame is alter boy of the year in 1981. Jenkins you have that part nailed, and then some! I have to go try to get Cold Fusion to work or pull a rabbit out of a hat! Damn! BTW, your younger boy is the spitting image of you, with tan! All the best to you and your family. Mark
Beth thanks for posting the photos! Another great day with family and friends. More importantly, another piece of the puzzle for Steve! I know he appreciated speaking with Officer Beatty about his role in the incident. Thank you for always taking the time to ask about my family. See you at Metro soon!
Great pics...Now I know I am getting old. I only recognized the Jenkins family,Kelli Pickart,Todd Rheingold and the K-9 personnel. What a great group of people from Mission,LAFD and the Community that came out to support all of you. I am and have always been proud to be a Los Angeles Poilce Officer.
