I feel very positive about Steven's progress today. Dr. Hanpeter came in a little after noon to perform another broncoscopy and to insert Steve's feeding tube. According to the doctor, the lungs looked better than expected which is significant because he is monitoring Steve's lungs very closely for any signs of pneumonia. Apparently, pneumonia is common (happens in 40% of cases) when there has been blood in the lungs because the blood is food for bacteria. Also, since the sedation medication has been scaled back a little bit, Steve has been responding to our voices by trying to open his eyes. I can definitely tell he's hearing us and wants to wake up.
On a lighter note, I had lunch today with Me-Mom, Andrew and some of Steve's friends and we had a lot of laughs. We had a blast remembering our favorite Steve stories and Steveisms and I know that is exactly the way he'd want it. The only person missing was Steve.

Hi Beth, and Me-Mom,
What great news! So good to hear that Steven is making such a speedy recovery. Thank God, he is such a healthy and determined man. The pair of you are certainly a perfect match. We continue to pray for all of you. Every minute is filled with thoughts of love for each and everyone in your family. I hear Auntie Chris is coming to help with the triplets, I'm sure they will be happy to see her. Blessing to all of you, thanks for keeping us posted on Steve's progress. Love to all, AB
hi beth! great news about steve! i spoke with sheran yesterday and i guess they are getting updates from elmer. hang in there! you guys are in our thoughts! joyce
Beth, you're a strong woman and you married a strong man. You use your individual strengths to support and lift each other up in times of crisis, as demonstrated over the last couple of years. To me that's what marriage and family are all about. You should know how inspiring and far reaching Steve's bravery and strenght are. Aunt Kathleen was early to work yesterday so she stopped at Starbucks. A couple of Atlanta PD officers were in line behind her,so, as a sign of support, she offered to buy their coffee. She told them her neice and her neice's husband were on the LAPD. The officers said we read about that K-9 officer that was shot out there. Kathleen said Oh my God, that is my neice's husband Steve. They were floored by the coincidence. They said nearly everyone in the department had heard about it and were pulling for Steve. Kathleen updated them on Steve's progress. The Atlanta PD sends their best wishes for a speedy recovery. Just thought you should know that, in addition to your family and friends, there is a national law enforcement family supporting Steve as well.
All our love to you, Steve and the kids.
Uncle Bob & Aunt Kathleen
